Birth Doula Support

When a baby is born so is the mother.

Whether you plan on welcoming your baby at a hospital, birthing center, or in the comfort of your home, I would be honored to be a part of your journey.

As a birth doula, my goal is to remind you of your innate ability to birth and hold space through the initiation of motherhood. Through emotional, physical, and informational support, you'll be nurtured and your needs advocated every step of the way.

What can you expect while working with me…

Picture yourself in labor, fully immersed in the profound journey of bringing new life into the world. Each passing moment strengthens the bond between you and your baby, while your partner stands faithfully by your side, offering unwavering support and encouragement at every twist and turn. They understand you in a way no one else does, providing precisely the right words and gestures to uplift you when doubts arise.

And where do I come in? I'll be the invisible hand ensuring that all your other needs are met, allowing your partner to remain steadfastly beside you. Whether it's fetching water, offering soothing cloths, or suggesting new birthing positions, I'll create the space for you to focus entirely on your journey within. In the background, I'll gently remind your partner to take moments of respite, seamlessly stepping in when needed. I'll echo the affirmations that resonate with your soul, quietly capturing those precious moments that encapsulate the love enveloping you.

My presence is all about enriching your experience, and fostering an environment where you feel empowered and supported. Your extraordinary childbirth journey is a testament to your inner strength and the divine essence within you.

FAQs

  • The word “doula” comes from ancient Greek, meaning “woman who serves”. A birth doula is a professionally trained support person who provides physical, emotional, informational, and advocacy support to people throughout childbirth including pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. The support provided by a doula can be extended to partners, family, and friends of the birthing person.

  • Midwives are trained professionals who provide medical care for you during pregnancy, birth, and the immediate postpartum period to ensure the safety of mom and baby. A doula is a non-medical professional that collaborates with other birth team members to ensure you have all the physical, emotional, and informational access to care to support a successful birth outcome.

  • Doulas serve in all areas the birthing person intends to give birth. They are professionally trained to support births at home, hospitals, or birthing centers.

  • Not at all. Having a doula does not replace your partner. In fact, we support partners as well and help guide them to be the most supportive and confident partners they can be. We acknowledge that both of you are having a baby and that you rely heavily on the support of your partner. Being a support person can be overwhelming and your partner may want to help you but not know what to do. Your doula can stand beside your partner and show them how to provide comfort techniques, and position changes so they better support you.

Doula’s Work!

Continuous support during labor is not only risk-free and highly effective, but it's also one of the best ways to improve birth outcomes.

In fact, researchers have found that people who have continuous support from a doula during childbirth have:

  • 39% decrease in the likelihood of a cesarean

  • 15% increase in the likelihood of a spontaneous vaginal birth

  • 10% decrease in the use of any medications for pain relief

  • Shorter labors by 41 minutes on average

  • 38% decrease in the baby’s risk of a low five-minute Apgar score

  • 31% decrease in the risk of being dissatisfied with the birth experience
